Is there something I'm missing?

Your system does not meet the system requirements.

Do you know which requirements I need to fulfill?

Below is what I could find and it seems that I have what is stated:

Minimum System Requirements: Multicore Intel processor with 64-bit support, Mac OS X v10.5.7 or v10.6, 2GB of RAM, 4GB of available hard-disk space plus 2GB of space for optional content; additional free space required during installation (cannot install on a volume that uses a case-sensitive file system or on removable flash-based storage devices), 1280×900 display with OpenGL 2.0–compatible graphics card, DVD-ROM drive, QuickTime 7.6.2 software required for QuickTime features, Broadband Internet connection required for online services

Re: Tweaks to get good results in camera tracker?

As Todd said, a shot that is panned doesnt give the tracker the parallax info needed to do a 3D track. Ive seen tutorials where you can kind of fake object placement in a tripod (static panning) type shot, but not when it is part of a long sequence of camera moves that may preceed it.

The only thought I have is to place a reference obejct where you want your object to be and use Mocha to object track. Then place your object over the reference one in AE. It might do better then using the 3D cameratracker.

Either that or while doing your pans also move the camera thru 3D space to give the 3D cameratracker the info it needs.

I have not come across any preferred shutter speeds, but I have seen how the rolling shutter issue with DSLR cameras can throw a camera track off.

Adding user interaction to After Effects - export to Flash?

Hello all!

Im quite new to After Effects & have CS6 Master Collection.

I would like to create several "one screen" landscapes the user can have basic interactivity with - probably via first person "point & click", with the ability to click & drag or examine objects.

I appreciate I can do this wholly in Flash, but would like to make use of After Effects flexibility with 3D layers & Cameras (in addition to particle effects).

I wondered what is the best method of doing this? Should I create the main landscape with constant animations such as ocean's, skies/clouds, snow, rain etc in After Effects & then;

a) render as FLV (I dont want an FLV componant in Flash though)

b) Simply save as a SWF & use that as the background layer for my Flash object interactivity & buttons etc.

Ive googled for tutorials but not having any joy - all advice most welcome!

Many thanks,

You can't do any interaction work  in After Effects. After Effects is just used to make the videos themselves, which you use as sources in Flash.

You absolutely do not want to use SWF files exported from After Effects. Except for plain text layers and masked solids, everything else is rasterized into very large image bitmap images.

Export F4V files from After Effects (or FLV if you need an alpha channel) and link to those from the SWF that you make in Flash.

CS 5.5 After Effects and Premier Pro not listed in install

I recently purchased an overstock item of the CS 5.5 Master Collection student edition and attempted to install all of the applications. I successfully installed everything with the exception of After Effects and Premier Pro. AE and PPr are clearly part of the package, but are not included in the list of applications during the install (screen shot below).

I have a Mac Mini with 2GB RAM using system 10.6.8 (Snow Leopard).  Is there something I'm missing?

It is very likely that you are using a 32-bit computer. After Effects CS5 and later and Premiere Pro CS5 and later require a 64-bit computer.

I agree with Tom that mocha is better for the 2D tracking parts of the shot.

My processor is an "Intel Core Duo".  According to the chart below, it's 32-bit... RATS!

Did you actually shoot a car (or your self)  in the actual position that you want stuff to appear?

Do you have a car/ self  image  that you would want to appear in the position that you want to on your bg footage?

Can you draw a car / self portrait suitable to appear in the position you want to see stuff appear at?

Why did you hand hold this BG footage?

See Todds post #1 as well..but you needed to plan the rest of this before you shot it.

Re: AE CS3 crash on Media Core initializing

I have yet to be able to use AE efficiently on my laptop.

I still get the "FAILED TO INITIALIZE MEDIA CORE" error and as such am still not able to import any video (mov) file at all to composite and edit some video projects.

can ANYONE point me to some solutions?

AE CS3 crash on Media Core initializing

I have done an exhaustive search before I got to this point.

As with many other people, AE CS3 crashes on initializing Media Core.

I did everything save put a voodoo hex on Adobe to get this to work.

I finally figured out that the cuplrit to my crashing was the file "Adobe Editing Modes.xml" in the "Editing Modes" folder inside my Applications/AE/Contents/Plug-ins/MediaCore.

I went one by one and removed all the files and the one that caused the crash was the aforementioned "Adobe Editing Modes.xml".

WIth that removed, AE will finally open but at startup I now get a prompt "After Effects warning: failed to initialize Media Core".

I'm assuming AE won't run properly without this offending file.

My question ... how do i fix this issue?

I'm on a MBP. OSX 10.6.8. AE version 8.0x247.

Any help is appreciated for this noob who's trying to get into video editing.

For one thing, you're trying to use a very old version of an application on a new operating system, one that it was never tested on. Mac OSX v10.6.8 was released years after After Effects CS3, so there's no way that the application could have been tested on that OS.

I recommend using a newer version of the application (or an older version of the OS).

How to not draw solid from center?

Hi everyone. I'm extremely new to AE and am using the most current version available through my Creative Cloud subscription.

I'm learning how to draw solids, which seems easy enough... but after I add a new solid, I'm unable to resize it from any point other than the center axis. I would like to be able to change that so that when I click and drag on a certain point, such as the lowermost right corner of a square solid, the upper-left most point remains fixed.

Is there an area in AE where I can make a change to the controls to allow that?

Thanks

All transform operations in AE are relative to the anchor point, which has its own keyframable property. There is no free transform like in Photoshop for this stuff (there is for masks and shape layer paths, though). In any case, I would advise not to use that methodology, anyway. Scaling solids will just like any other layer resample them, which you will notice when applying effects at the latest. Instead use Layer --> Layer Settings to resize the solid's source and keep it clean and then create other sized solids for your other stuff when needed...

Ah, perfect. It's a Mask on top of the layer solid that I need to create to do what I want. You've answered my question and concern, thank you.
