Which layer is disappearing? Your screenshot shows Precomp -1 as the active comp. Is that what you are rendering? If you are having problems with things like this the first thing to try is a test render with the effects turned off for the layer you are having problems with.
Things look fine but I can't tell what goes missing. A flow chart of the rendered comp may also help find the problem.
Any layer styles? Any other things we can't see?
What is the display resolution? What kind of mac? What version of the os? A mac that won't run mountain lion won't run AE CC.
1920x1080, os x 10.8.4. it's running mountain lion just fine and has been since the day it was released.
Show us a screenshot of what you're seeing.
I have created a short 4 second comp and it all plays back fine until I actually try to render it. I've tried rendering the layer on it's own in a seperate comp and it disappears then as well and just becomes a white screen, but the original one when put into a comp works fine. I've spent hours editing it and putting it in place so i really don't want to start again.
I'm fairly new to after effects but I haven't been able to find the answer on any other discussions. Is this a glitch or have I done something wrong?
You might want to look at this article. I am having the same issues when ever I background after effects and come back. Very annoying as I have to restart the app everytime. As long as I don't background it it's fine. This only started happening in AE CC. CS6 did not have this issue.
BTW. This suggested fix did not work for me 
Ah, you're using the desktop Creative Cloud application. I find the website much easier to use than that desktop application, for several reasons. Go here:

I'm rendering at 1920x1080HD 25fps. Used the expression found on numerous threads including this one to generate whole number pixel shifts per frame.

fr = t/thisComp.frameDuration;
x = value [0];
s = 4; //Speed in pixels per frame
[x, fr*s]
I generated the text and images in InDesign and exported as a PDF. Imported PDF into AE. Have tried a few whole number values for s including 4 and still getting judder.
Generated to H264 and Apple Pro Res codecs doesn't seem to make much difference to judder.
Here is my AE project with PDF. Here is output as H264 (40MB).
Also included a Quartz Composer file (if anybody is interested) where I created the same whole number pixel movement as AE but rendering it out in Quartz Crystal I get different judder but no better. Quartz Composer previews in real time and Quartz Crystal renders same project that took some 16min+ in AE in about 30 seconds. But no smoother output — even when applying AA and Motion Blur at render time.
Can anyone recommend a video encoder where I can down-sample say a 75 fps render to 25 fps with frame blending? Does Apple's Compressor do frame blending? What about some other app that I can get this out smoothly from. I have FCP installed but have never done a title in it either.
Since my Dell only has 60Hz at full native res (2560x1440) I set it to 1080p and selected 50Hz to see if that effected anything but it makes absolutely no difference to playback smoothness.

If it's not on the system requirements list, then After Effects won't use it for GPU acceleration of the ray-traced 3D renderer. Read this page for details about what this means:

tried that. if i go to download AE from there, it just opens the desktop application, which does nothing. even if i quit out of the CC desktop app, clicking 'download' in the AE site opens the desktop application anyway. then, nothing happens.
I recommend asking on the Creative Cloud forum that I linked to. The folks here on the After Effects forum are likely to be able to help you with the functioning of the After Effects application, but the folks who know the Creative Cloud installation details and how to troubleshoot that are on the Creative Cloud forum.

Thanks a lot for the article! It describes a lot of problems and at the end of the article it becomes clear that there is a major issue! I hope that Adobe will get it solve quicker than targeted because it really gives a hard time when you have a lot of work to do.
With this I am really stuck and I think about getting back to AE 6.
Todd I would appreciate very much intensive work on these problems.
At least I might be able to do something about the Quicktime file crashes (I will report) but for the video output it looks as we all have to wait. But just do say again: I need output on a calibrated video monitor through SDI and it is absolutely essential to have this working. I cannot restart AE after each switch nor can I restart my computer every half an hour...

So this is a complete nightmare.
I am working and a film project using AE, Photoshop, mocha ...
So I have to switch all the time.
And I need to view my results on a big reference screen.
I have been working now for some hours and it is abolutely impossible to get on.
I think I really need to go back to AE CS6 and loose my advanteges of CC.
I do unsterstand your schedules and that you adress this issue. But for cinema work it is a major problem that has no time to wait for a solution.
Also I delted all DVCpro components and I will see how the other problem behaves in the next hours (still trying on AE CC... being an optimist)

Well a little update regarding the "corrupt-file-issue" when trying to render.
As long as I stay in After Effects only after I launched it, I can render anything to anywhere.
As soon as I switched to mocha or photoshop or anything else and I am back in AE, rendering is no longer possible resulting in the error described.
Restarting AE helps but I even had the case that I had to reboot the machine.
So I have the impression this is more related to the "output-modul" problem than to some codecs, as I deleted all DVC pro for example.
I also have the latest QT-codecs installed.

I've tried to track some stuff in Mocha AE on my new PC. Whenever I select a layer and choose track in Mocha AE nothing happens. When I tried to start mocha from the plugins folder some error occured and told me Mocha couldn't be launched. It works fine with CC on my laptop, just not on my desktop.

GTX 770
I am running the latest graphics driver and have OpenGL installed. Any ideas?

i cannot import any swf file into after effects. Even the most simple one. A shape created in flash pro cc without any scripts.
what i do:
in after effects i use "import file", choose the swf. after effects tries to import it, but it does not work. i see just the loading bar which does not move at all. the cancel button also does not work. in the end i can only force quit the program.
material:

- macbook pro 2,2 ghz Intel Core i7
