    Hi everyone,

Beginner in After Effects here. When I put my PNG into 3D space, the transparent background turns black. Here are some things I've tried:

    - Adding lights in front of the image does not change the background

    - Masking the image still puts a black rectangle around it

    - Rearranging layers doesn't help

    - I can't make a shape layer an Alpha Matte below it, acting as a mask

    Please help!

    CJ

This problem has been disussed by other users already, but heres my story and I would love for someone to help as I am new to this programe. Here(Import of h.264 video results in green, distorted and doubled image. ) is a another discussion about an almost identical problem someone else had. they fixed the problem by re-encoding the original footage to a diffrent codec or something like that.

The probem with my project is though, the problem never occured for me while editing the footage and only appeared when trying to render the entire thing for the first time. It now started to appear in preveiws aswell.

So, if I re-encode the original footage now, I will loose all editing progress and have to start all over again in another project? Is there anything i could do to fix the issue inside the current project?

    Your workflow is all wrong:

This is a proper workflow for the footage type you are shooting:

    1. Shoot

    2. Transfer files to local drive

    3. Make a backup of footage files to another drive for safety

    4. Drop the files into Premiere Pro

    5. Get the edit done

    6. Take cuts that need visual effects in AE either by dynamic links or manually7.

    7. Back to PP for the final touches and render

You are trying to edit and add effects all in AE. This is where you are going wrong. AE is not a NLE and is not meant for editing unless you have years of experience behind you and even then it was never built as a NLE.

    >There is no automatic way of figuring out what effect is causing the problem
I do not have a problem with any plugin. I want to create a problem to test batch rendering.

    >There are dozens if not hundreds that show a message

    Then please name one.

That is what my whole question is about.

I am searching for a plugin that shows an error message dialog if you try to render.

I don't remember. All of my plug-ins are licensed. Unlikely candidates are anything from Red Giant or Borris FX. Likely candidates are effects from smaller companies or effects that have not been updated in a long time.

If there is no indication in the error message I would open up the comp that is giving you that error, view the flow chart to see what effects have been applied, and select all layers in all comps and press E to reveal all applied effects, then start turning them off in the timeline and send the comp to be rendered.

    Hi,

I have After Effects CC 16. I create a new C4D file from File > New. After I save the C4D file in CINEMA 4D lite, I close CINEMA 4D to go back to After Effects. The problem is when I try to edit the C4D file from After Effect by pressing Ctrl+E, the CINEMA 4D app opens but it doesn't open my C4D file.

When I try manually opening it in CINEMA 4D using File > Open, nothing happens. The only way for me to open a C4D file is if I "merge" it into the current Untitled C4D project.

    >I don't remember.

And now you see why I am asking the community.

    >If there is no indication in the error message I would open up the comp that is giving you that error,

Where do you read that I have a problem with a plugin or effect that I need to fix?

I do not have any problem with any plugin at the moment.

I have NO plugin that shows me an error message.

I want to have one that creates a problem.

You might get lucky enough to find someone that has the experience of receiving an error message from an unlicensed plugin that also has no indication who made the plugin, but I wouldn't hold your breath. I cannot remember a single time I have had an error message from a plug-in that did not identify the effect that was having the problem.

    Try Render Garden

    https://www.mekajiki.com/rendergarden/

I use it a lot and its got the best Render Engine out there. Almost like have a hardware based multi node render farm

    Hi Roland

Sorry haven't been in touch for while, been flat out with other print based rush jobs. I took your advice on the pre render, fire was just going to be too long to render, was going to take over 300hrs, so got another fire 30 seconds long and duplicated layer many times to stretch out over 15 minutes. It pre-renders great and in good time, but small problem when playing rendered file, every 30 seconds a black glitch appears, obviously where time line goes over where new layer below comes into play. It is as if a black frame has appeared at start of second layer underneath, but I have tried cutting frames off start and end of layer to no avail. I have found it in a few places in the actual after effects file when I move timeline over the layer transition. I have tried solid transitions and also fade out top layer and fade in layer underneath for a good transition but it still appears, any help with this would be great. Also I pre-rendered lights in the clip and they work perfectly.

    thanks

    Martin

    Try this as well

    https://aescripts.com/bg-renderer/

Will definitely ask for a license

I use it often because you can have it render in the background while you continue working in AE

Also much faster than AE's built in renderer. Mine is however liccensed

    >an error message from a plug-in that did not identify the effect that was having the problem.

Where do you get all that information from? About no indication who made the plugin?
    Where have I said that?
Where do you read that I have a problem at the moment?
Why do you try to solve an error that does not exist?

I do NOT have any plugin with an error.

I do NOT use any effect that shows an error message.

I even do NOT have a composition.
I have nothing at the moment.

Literally nothing. (Beside an installation of After Effects)

I want to have a plugin/effect that creates an error message.

And then I create a composition with that effect to get an error message if I try to render.

And then I want to test this error with batch rendering.

This is far from simple. You are taking cloth fluid dynamics here

This is not done in AE but rather in 3D applications like C4D, Maya, Blender, MODO etc

It is very complex and needs things like deformers, displacement, wind effectors etc

The closest in AE would be TRYING with the puppet pin Tool or using 3rd party plugins that won't truly give you a realistic effect

You could also look at SYFLEX which comes in a s plugin for Maya, C4D, Lightwave, MODO etc

    https://syflex.biz/

Or you could go to a standalone app like MarvelousDesigner

All in all its a very complex task simulating things like cloth, hair, fluids etc

    Best of luck

"And then I create a composition with that effect to get an error message if I try to render"

What error are you looking for and how are you going to simulate this error?

Rick Gerard Can u understand the OP's requirements?

    Hi Mo Moolla

Your links seem to be plugins that handle batch rendering.

But I am searching for an effects plugin.

I am doing the batch rendering myself.

I just need to know the name of some effects plugin.

Third party plugins don't work like that; they always show the "error" by means of something burned into the frame. Since a render to Media Encoder always runs AE in headless mode it's not possible for a plugin to rely on being able to access the user interface API.

    >What error are you looking for
Any message dialog window that prevents the render from finishing.

    >and how are you going to simulate this error?

That it exactly the issue. I can't myself.
Therefore I am searching for an effects plugin that shows an error message.

I see two possible ways if I finally have such a plugin:

    1)
I create a comp, perhaps with a disabled preview.

I apply the filter (perhaps it shows a message that I can ignore)

I add the comp to the render queue.

Once I try to render the queue, I get the message again.

    2)
I ask the vendor ot the plugin for a temp license.

I create the comp, apply the filter, add it to the render queue.

I delete the license to get the error message.

    >Third party plugins don't work like that
    >not possible for a plugin to rely on being able to access the user interface API

I definitely know that there are plugins out there that show a message.

Yes, they can not rely on it, but there are plugin vendors that forgot to think about batch rendering when they implemented the licensing.

And the rendering freezes because of that.
