as i told you in my first reply it's a .Mp4 issue, and to fix this just use the file you get it from your camera directly don't convert this file in third party software as .MP4 than use it in after effects. mp4 video file 90% of time it will not work inside after effects and the only way to solve this is to transcode this video file to some better codec file to able to use it inside after effects.

i already transcode this video to ProRez, try to downloaded and test it Dropbox - BS2A8058_1.mov

also try to stop the GPU accelerator, to do this, go to file/project settings/video rendering and effects/ use mercury software only

NLE?

And size of your disc cache now is more or less than 80% of space avaliable on your disc? If you don't wan't to see that message - it have to be 8% or less.
More on disk and AE storage you can find here: Memory and storage in After Effects

I have just done a quick test. I cut my clips using PPro and transferred them to AE. They worked perfectly as crystal clear as the original files.

i will follow the same in my future projects.

NLE?

If you are asking what NLE means - the answer is:
Non-Liniear Video Editing. That is current editing standard and NLE software as Premiere Pro, Vegas, Avid, Edius, DaVinci and many many more are the software to chose from when you wish to edit more or less complicated stuff.
LE - Linear Editing is "od way" that was used in analogue video tapes days. But also til this day you have software that co that - f.eg. Virtual Dub

as other users mention there are a bug in AE and AME CC2019 so sending file to AME will not render at all, however the only solution you have is to export your file directly from AE, really i'm still not sure why you get a black screen when you try to export from AE directly, so can you share some screenshoot about your workflow and render settings.

can you share your PC information, also your AE release number?

Re: Vector animation renders in AE pixelated (lower quality) compared to result in 2k

Thank you for help!

I initially want Render settings - Quicktime Apple ProRes 4444 RGB+Alpha 3840X2160, but it does not open in VLC, just green screen. But opens in QuickTime Player, pixelated as I explained in first post.

To be able to open in VLC and show you codec details above I made the following output:

Screenshot 2018-11-24 at 11.03.23.pngScreenshot 2018-11-24 at 11.03.40.pngScreenshot 2018-11-24 at 11.03.48.png

And with this output it also looks pixelated in 4k, but good in 2k

It could be an issue with your graphics card. If you have updated to Mojave (Apple's latest OS) it breaks the NVIDA Cuda cards so they no longer work! Nvidea still have not fixed this.

To check, open the CUDA system preferences pane. If it says you need to update but won't allow you to update it -  it's likely that this is your issue.

I would advise (if this is the issue) to either roll back to High Sierra where you can use the workaround here to fix the issue;

As a workaround for you:

Instead of outputting via media encoder, go to Composition > Add to Render Queue. In here, choose Best Settings and then choose the format that you want to output in the Output Module settings. I'd advise using an uncompressed setting and then opening the finished render in Adobe Media Encoder afterwards to choose your final delivery settings.

At least this will enable you to render out a movie and hopefully AME will allow you to directly import this to format it.

Re: disk cache problems again

First of all, go to Preferences > Disk Cache. Empty your current disk cache which is probably on your system drive.

Attach an external drive, make sure it's a fast one, either SSD or HDD thats at least 7200 RPM. On the drive, create a folder named "Caches". Then in the AE prefs, select this folder as your disk cache and you can allocate as much space as you can afford.

This way, AE will run all previews off this disk drive and it will make the app a bit faster as it's not trying to access previews from your system drive. It will also then not clutter up your system drive with preview files.

If you don't have a spare disk, you can switch off the Disk Cache prefs so it stops caching previews. Obviously this is not a long term solution but will prevent your system drive from maxing out till you buy an external drive to use as a disk cache.

Use the Echo Filter on the keyed footage to get this result. You can play around with the number of echoes, time offset and blending modes to achieve this :-)

I don't see why it should look pixelated. Change the Codec to Prores 422HQ and see what happens.

What monitor are u playing on? Does it support full 4K?

Did this test. Have a look

OUTPUT 444

I can't seem to understand why you are seeing pixelation. In your original pic it look more like aliasing than pixelation.

Can u perhaps send me the original vector files and I will test for u

I can bet that it is notr because of rendering but because of QT player downscaling. Author said that he is using old Macbook Air from 2013 so maximum screen resolution that it can hendle is 1440x900 so QT player is fitting 4K to screen resolution - that is why I suggested to play that clip in full resolution not fitted to full screen or play it on different player (maby with better downscaling algorythm).
That was and that is still my first suggestion.

Hi Rick

I know a seemless loop would be better, its a stage backdrop I'm doing so its a continuous scene. Problem was with the loop no matter what I did there was always a hiccup when the scene looped around. It was a 30 second clip. So I thought stretch out the backdrop and there wouldn't be that hiccup every 30 seconds. I split the layer and moved right hand section to left and left hand section to right so end frame matched start frame. But no matter what I did there was always that hiccup in the scene. I read that problem could be quicktime or vlc or what ever media player being used. If I could do a seamless loop that would be great. Sorry, I am very new to after effects only started using it about a month ago.

R Neil HaugenKevin-Monahan her output bit rate is 24. If she's outputting at 444 she shouldn't be seeing this.

Any ideas on this one guys?

Tis is my output at. 422 and you can clearly see the 422 at a proper 10bit YUV
