here are the screenshots of the composition. I kept the "Roto Brush & Refine Edge" Collapsed as all it had was my brush strokes for the rotos. I have no guide layers set and have only been using active camera. I am exporting the correct composition from the two I had nad have tried keeping default render settings and other render types with no further success

Problem with After effects Render que to Media Encoder

After the last update (Adobe CC 2019) I have a problem that After effects will not connect with Media Encoder and I can't made a video of my After effects file.

If I click on file > export < render que to Media Encoder, it will open Media Encoder but don't show the file in it...

I uninstalled the last update and updated it again but it wouldn't do it ether...

Help!

Scale different sections of a video

Hi - I'm new to After Effects and have created a series of soccer clips of my son to use with college coaches.  In several of the clips I would like to zoom in (scale up?).  I have tried the scale tool on the main video but it scales the whole video.  Is there a way for me to scale just certain sections of the full video?

Thanks.

Mike

This is happening to me also. I send it from after effects to media encoder and just get the color bars.

Prep adobe draw files to use in after effects

ive Used illustrator files several times in after effects,

ive used adobe draw files in illustrator.

The problem is is when I transfer the adobe draw project to illustrator and then upload it into after effects, the object is blank and the layers are gone. I’ve tried it both as footage and as a comp.

I do notice in illustrator that each layer from the draw project shows up as “draw layer” and when I toggle over them there are sub layers with each shape. Perhaps the file is too complex for AE? Is there a way to convert these draw layers into shapes I can use in after effects. I drew a very cute animation puppet and I’d be thrilled to get this working cause it would ease my workflow quite a bit.

  1. Duplicate the original footage layer in the timeline (Ctrl/Cmnd + d)
  2. Select the rectangle tool (q) and draw a mask on the top copy
  3. Select the Anchor Point tool (y) and reposition the anchor point of the layer in the center of the mask
  4. Set a keyframe and select  the scale transform property of the masked top layer (Alt/Option + s)
  5. Set a position keyframe for the mask copy of the footage of the layer (Alt/Option + p)
  6. Move the CTI (current time indicator) down the timeline and adjust the scale property and position as needed

For the next shot, start a new comp and do the same thing.

By the way, if you are just scaling up a portion of the video then this is a lot faster and easier to do in Premiere Pro. After Effects is designed to create shots and short motion graphics projects. Most of my comps are one shot under seven seconds long. Trying to edit a highlight video in After Effects is going to get real cumbersome really quickly. You basically follow the same steps in Premiere Pro.

substitute graded clip for proxie

Hi, I drew brush animations on proxie clips brought over from a premiere project. Now I want to apply them to a graded clip. I'm grading in davinci resolve. Is it possible to to just import the graded clip into AE and put it a new layer, under the brush animations?

A further complication is that each proxie clip is about 6 minutes long, but before bringing into AE, I cut them down to just 10-15 seconds. In my AE projects, two comps were created when I exported the clip from premiere: one has the original 6 minute clip, and the other has the shorter clip as edited in Premiere. But I was only able to use the brush effect in the comp with the full length clip. I would love to just replace the proxie source file with the color graded clip, but the graded clip is only the 15 seconds used in the premiere edit - not of the full 6 minutes of the original proxie.

I'm guessing there is some way to bring in the graded clip, put it on a layer under the proxie that I had painted on, make the brush on the painted proxie transparent, so that the brush animation shows, but not the proxie, and thus overlay the brush animation over the color graded clip. Am I on the right track? Any recommendations for how to handle this?

There is an output module preset for lossless with alpha. Until you have a solid understanding of video formats and rendering you should just use the presets.

Make sure AE and AME are both up to date by checking the Creative Cloud App. if they are and it still does not work check to make sure that you are NOT using Ray-traced rendering. If it still does not work then we need to know a lot more details about your project and your workflow. Sometimes it takes several minutes for the AME to load up a comp because it has to create a temporary AEP and open up After Effects render module in the background.

I'm having the same issue with High Sierra on a MacBook Pro.

It was working fine and then all of a sudden I couldn't open files or send to render queue.

It crashes systematically a couple of minutes after launch.

Please help.

Hey, so new problem occured. I reinstalled tablet and after effects again. Now, the same problem as before, there are no curves or smoothness, but also brush is super laggy, I have to wait 2-4 seconds to draw another line or something. Bascally it´s super slow. I test my computer, Premiere, Phooshop, Illustrator works fine, same as before, Lightroom works fine as well, just After Effects, so I am guessing, problem is in the software, I am trying to downgrade to 15.1.1. version.
If this will not help, I don´t know what will help.

Are you sending the files from Draw directly to Illustrator?

Did you check the imported file to make sure it did not contain any warnings by enabling the transparency grid?

If that is what you see then you did not save the file as PDF compliant when you saved the file in AI. Try doing a save as and make sure the option is selected.

Thank for your response. Just checked and no updated needed. Checked the renderer and it's set on classic. Basically I've imported a 4K file from my Mavic 2 pro made a comp from the file then added some lumetri colour grading. I then go to export>media encoder cue. I've left it for up to 10 mins and still just shows the colour bands almost like there is a missing link.

I don't know if the Mavic 2's files are 100% compatible with AE because I sent my Mavic 2 back the day I got it. It had a bad camera. My Mavic Pro and Phantom 4 Pro are both compatible using all formats. Make sure the media is still in the same place and everything is still connected. If the footage has not moved then try transcoding the footage using the AME. There may be a bug with the original DJI footage.

If all you are doing is color grading then the task is much more efficient in Premiere Pro and it will render in about half the time.

If there are other tasks involved like motion tracking and compositing then color grading should be the last step in the production process. I only use AE for shots, I never use it as a color grading only tool or to edit.

If you are just creating the composite then I would just render the brush layer with a transparent background and bring it into Davinci as another layer. It's faster.

You can replace footage but you'll have to do the timing in AE. If you do not have timecode on the proxy clips this can get a little tricky.

A better workflow is to edit the footage first then just bring the trimmed clips into AE for compositing. It sounds like you kind of went the long way around the barn.  I hardly ever use proxy's but when I do I make sure the timecode is included so things can get synced up.

Have you read the User Guide section on using and preparing proxies? There is some good advice in there.

element 3d render issue

Hi all,

I've been trying to find out why my video render is coming out with such a weird error.  Hours looking at forums so far, and no luck.  I have a fairly simple scene that is doing just fine in the preview window at quarter and third resolution settings.  However, when I send it to Media Encoder, to render to h.264 in 1080p (which is the comp res), the encoder is generating random frames of my mask layers that i used to extrude the element object, and nothing else.  This is also what happens in the preview window when I set the resolution to full.  To hopefully narrow this down: I don't have any layers toggled on as guide layers, and these layers aren't even live until 00:02:00, they're hidden, and they're showing up in the output in the first few frames.  It seems like the encoder is just freaking out and giving up or something - the encoding should take a lot more time, and once it gets to the complex scene, it just stalls on a frame for a minute, then squirts out a bunch of errant frames and finishes in no time.

My computer is a late 2012 macbook pro, fully loaded, with a Nvidia GeForce GT 650M with 1gb of VRAM.  I don't know if that's it, but I also updated the CUDA driver, as well as reinstalled Element 3D and After Effects.  Same issue after all that.  Additionally, I tried encoding to different settings and resolutions, with no difference.  I know I don't have a lot of VRAM compared to newer machines, but I've rendered much more complex things on this before.

Hey. So not even downgrading helped. This is the difference I am talking about, and it´s HUGE. The top word SMILE, I done 3 days ago, when everyhing was working just fine. The bottom one is how it looks now. I just don´t get, what happened. My PC is fine, I am not doing crazy 3D animations, it´s simple brush strokes, I did much complicated animations and never occured this kind of problem.

I did edit first and bring trimmed clips into after effects. This created two comps per clip. One comp had the trimmed clip, the other the same clip in full length. I was only able to get the brush tool working on the comp that was untrimmed.

I also had cropped the clips on Premiere, and on some had applied a spherize effect before "replacing with AE composition". Not sure if this affected the way that they were imported.

Element 3D does not use CUDA acceleration, neither does the AME. You are using Classic 3D so there should be no problem.  As long as you purge everything you should bet a clean render.

I have no idea what is going on in the comp at 11 or 24 seconds because the only thing in the screenshot is an audio layer and a nested comp. What is going on in the nested comp (pre-comp)? Check the modified properties of the layers giving you problems (press UU) and if you can not figure it out then post a screenshot that shows us what is going on in those layers.

If you are only having problems with the frames in the nested comp try adding Pre-comp 2 to the render cue, pick the Lossless with Alpha preset and render and replace in your project.

The first rule I have with complex scenes is to make each shot a separate comp and simplify as much as I can. If the render is going to take more than a few seconds a frame I render an image sequence because it is a lot easier to fix. Really complex comps are almost never sent to the AME directly to render an MP4 for distribution because complex composites can take a very long time to render and seriously tax the AME and AE running in the background. I almost never assemble a sequence in AE using nested comps as separate shots because it's just a lot easier to handle the rest of the post process in an NLE.

I hope these suggestions help. If there is nothing wrong in Pre-comp 2 rendering and replacing should fix the problem.
