Probably by mistake you hide layer controls. To show or hide layer controls press Ctrl+Shift+H (or  Command+Shift+H on mac) .

@RickGerard here's a screenshot from the other properties

It only happens when I enable the motion blur for all layers, not for one single layerSchermafbeelding 2018-11-29 om 11.32.48.pngSchermafbeelding 2018-11-29 om 11.32.52.png

it's really strange

Greetings,

I was getting the same error, earlier, until I set my
Preferences -> Media & Disk Cache Size -> Maximum Disk Cache Size = <the same value that I had in RAM allocated to AE>

In my case, the number I used was 11GB.

See the example screen grabs below:

  1. This first image shows you the Warning that I used to get.
  2. The second image shows you the 11GB Max RAM that I have allocated to AE (you'll find this in the Preferences -> Memory Tab)
  3. The third image shows you how I set the 11GB (specified in 2.) to the Max. Disk Cache Size (given in the Preferences -> Media & Disk Cache Size Tab).

Doing so, got rid of my Warning.

Hope it helps.

Rajnesh

32GB Ram, i7.

I don't think it's a ram issue?

After effects crash on launch

So I've been using Adobe after effects for quite a long time. Recently something happened to my GPU driver which lead me to clean install my GPU drivers. When I launch my after effects it crashes with a error message

1.PNG

which ultimately leads to the crash message

2.PNG

So i ran the GPUSniffer on CMD and this was the output

3.PNG

as far as the GPU driver goes I seems to work since all my GAMES work and DXdiag also recognizes it

4.PNG

The crash log also shows this

Re: After Effects 2018 CC - composition preview doesn't show anything

Hi, I had the same problem with imported illustrator-files in AE CC 2019. I re-installed AE from my SSD to HHD (although I have 150 GB free on my SSD) and it didn't help me.

I finally realized that some of my Pre-comps had a different framerate from the one that caused the problem. Once I picked the same framerate for every comp, it worked.

How to create a video log screen?

Goodmorning everyone,

I tried to find the answer in the forum discussions but I was not very lucky.

As a title, I would like to make the screen for a video log, possibly dynamic, that can be used to record a real daily video log. In the attached photo there is an example of what I would like to create, but it is only a starting idea. Anyone can tell me please if there are tutorial about this? My level of knowledge of AF is beginner.

Thank you all,

bye

Comp guides

Hey

Can someone explain these guides to me? In the first screenshot you can see I can select a comp within the main comp no problem. However, when I click into the selected comp and then return, these guides appear in the main comp (second screenshot) and I can no longer select anything.

Thanks

I'm having a load of trouble too - all with really simple actions, same as the guy above. I've trashed my prefs but still the same problem. I'm working on a near new MacBook Pro. Is there anyway I can just go back to the older version does anyone know (at least until the AE guys can make the latest version work that is!).

Thanks

On the first screen you have just a composition with bunch of nested compositions in it. And by clicking one of those you are just selecting that composition

select.gif

On the second screen you have a composition with title safe margins turnded on but as you can se bellow it does not matter if safe margins are turned on or of - you should be able to chose a composition - if that is stil the same composition from first screen.

My main problem seems to be when I preview the timeline, it will run fine for a while then start to go crazy then the display window will freeze and I have to force quit and restart. I use AE all day everyday for client work and this is an absolute nightmare...

If you are AE beginner you should start from learning some basics of designing and basics of animating those graphic designs. For AE basics start here:

Adobe After Effects Learn & Support

After knowing some basics you should be able to do almost anything you wish. You will not find any exact step by step tutorial of how to make lower thirds or on screen graphics that will be exactly what you wish to make because different designs, different graphics will and should be animated in different way.
So for start:
- take some paper, pencil and make a drawing of how your video interface/lower third and on screen graphics should look like
- then go to photoshop or illustrator and based on your drawing prepare those graphics
- and after that import those graphics to AE and animate

You can also just design your graphics in AE without any preparation but for that you need to:
a) know what you wish to accomplish
b) know AE basics

gregn23024080 This sounds like a different issue. It would be helpful if you could make a new thread, post your machine specs, exact AE setup, and the kind of work you're doing and what types of files you're working with. There are a lot of things to consider with your issue, but yes, you can go back to 2018. Install previous version of your Creative Cloud app

Thanks davidarbor - will do. Figured out how to install previous version and all working fine - so will stick with that I think! Good luck with this one.

Re: motion blur darkens footage in after effects cc 2018

I don't see any keyframes for position or scale so Motion Blur has no motion in Layer 4 to work with. It should not be doing anything to the layer. If you disable Twixtor by just clicking the FX icon in the timeline does the layer return to normal? If it does then there is some weird interaction going on with Twixtor and Motion blur.

I never apply Twixtor directly to the footage. I apply it to a solid then set the footage layer as the source. It solves a bunch of potential problems, especially when you really mess with the speed of the clip. It also respects the in-point of the layer. Give that a try. If you need to adjust the position or scale, or even animate anything else in the footage just apply those transforms to the solid layer.

I cannot reproduce the error with Twixtor or Twixtor Pro.

It would be a very good idea to spend some time with the user guide: Basic AE

Understanding UI in AE is extremely important. It is so complicated that it is almost impossible to figure out where everything is or what everything does without some study.
