After Effects CC aerender multiple instances error

Hello!

I use After Effects CC 2018 (with aerender.exe) on Windows 10.

Because aerender only uses a small amount of my available CPU resources, I would like to start several instances and render simultaneously.

To start several instances at once, I wrote a little helper script (node.js).

If I open up cmd and start my script like that, it works perfectly.

The big problem is:

I want to run the script in the background with Windows Task Scheduler.

It runs the script in the background with no visible cmd window.

But unfortunately, i always get this error:

aerender version 15.1.2x69

aerender version 15.1.2x69

In this case, I try to run 3 instances.

It tells me to try to use areender without the -reuse flag, but I haven't used it anyway, so I don't know what the problem is.

Only one of the instances works and renders, but the other two don't work.

It's not a problem only with Windows task scheduler, but with every program which lets the

If I run aerender one by one, it works (but of course it takes more time)

I am talking about AfterEffects default workspace stretched to 4K.

I notice that whan I scale preview down in preview window it works a littlebit faster. I am using Auto preview mode. When I dont use monitor I work with Full HD (native laptop display) and I dont need to use Auto and I can preview in Full mode wth ease.

Other software works normal like browsersm spotify etc. and they dont influence AfterEffects work speed.

Thank you very much for your reply!

I should clarify, when I say editor I actually meant a person who is editing I'm sorry for not making this clear.

I don't have direct acces to the Premiere Pro files the editor is working with. That would require some sort of server right?

Do you have any tips on a more 'offline' approach?

Thanks again!

After Effects renders items in the queue one at a time.

Actually you can render multiple comps at one time f. eg. with AME when rendering one clip into several formats/codecs or from AE with AE renderer (or scripts based on that) but i guess question that was asked is on more basic AE level and it is not exactly on rendering several clips at once but more on some kind of automation of clip rendering - but I can of course be mistaken.

Rick, I couldn't agree more! Unfortunately, study time is hard to come by these days.

The question is about rendering different videos in After Effects.

After Effects renders items in the queue one at a time. Period.

If you are not editing those files yourselve and you are not working with project as a team project, or editor works on some other software than PPro - I gess there are no way to do your SFX and graphics other than take footage that was sended to you and work on it.

You can also (only when your editor works with PPro) request your editor to send you AE projects that he generated with edited footage that need to have sfx (special effects - let's call your work that for now) and send you that project. One condition - you have 100% of raw footahe that editor is working on and have in his AE all plugins that you will use. That way you will just send and recieve AE project files without rerendering thos files several times.

New workflow - yes, complicated? Maby. But faster than - in most cases rendering and rerendering files back and forth.

In some cases I guess it will work when you will use Motion Graphics Templates. (more on that here:  Create Motion Graphics templates with Essential Graphics panel  ) But here we also have one condition - your editor have to work on PPro - preferably the same update that your AE.

Hello imeilfx, Thanks for your answers. About your part (A), excuse me, I think I worded it wrong, I want to have all those 15 quicktime videos running at the same time on the same picture / composition. I said render,  . . .I want to combine them ... so I can export and use this as a background image for my masthead on my personal Adobe Portfolio website.

On the other hand - In another post in this forum I had asked you about turning the frame animation into a smart object which I could paste into a new documentand to run simultaneously with other unrelated smart object animations, and I couldn't figure out how to do that.  I tried and it wouldn't select, I thought putting together the 15 animations on one photoshop file would be the easiest way.

AE runs renders in a que system currently. One at a time. Not parallel.

So when one finishes the next one up starts.

If you want to batch or parallel render get a 3rd party application or build a render farm.

There are a few 3rd party app out there that are good.

Yes. I remember our conversation about GIFs ... in there you told me that you know PS but you are not familiar with AE so I tried to show you the way how to achieve what you needed with PS. But I seeing qur questions i think that you are not so familiar with PS as I was thinking.
Now you try make something similar but with AE and I guess we will just come to a stop somewhere also because you lacking basic knowledge of AE.
Don't get me wrong - there is nothing wrong to ask and to be newbie in AE/PS world - each of us was starting from the same level. But for you to work with AE properly and understand what we will tell you - you have to learn basics so please start here:
Adobe AE  Basics

As for what you are asking for - Is that the effect that you wish to achieve?

Hi Peter

The AE GUI is VERY dependent on the GPU so stretching it to a 4K resolution will undoubtedly affect speed and cause lag.

This is why in studio we always use 2 GPUs. One to drive 2 monitors left and one for 2 monitors right (this is in a 4 monitor setup)

Remember that your laptop GPU has to deal with the 4K external monitor as well as the normal display which puts a lot of strain on it.

What I would do is disable the output on your laptop screen and use just the LG. If thats not an option use the LG for the preview window only and leave the rest of AE's GUI e.g. timeline etc on the laptop.

Hello

i use VR rotate sphere to reorient my 360 footage.

Everything is fine on my comp. When i rendre i've got a black line as if my source footage had a black line on the background.

My footage is totally fine. After the render my footage in After effects display the black line, but not other applications or Finder.

I'm on Os X Sierra on a macbook pro 2,9 GHz Intel Core i716 Go 2133 MHz LPDDR3 Radeon Pro 460 4096 Mo.

I've got GPU acceleration turned on ( Open CL or metal display the same result )

Cache and media database already cleaned up.

Thanks a lot!

Benjamin

HIGH CONTRAST masks

Hi Mr and Mrs. Adobe,

I would like to point out that it would be very useful for masks to be initially highlighted in high saturation, rather than the bleak skintone chicken bone colors you got right now. It is simply difficult to see what you are doing, especially if you have a lot of masks.

Thank you.

A good monitor for timeline is UltraWide ones. But how I say, check how much hardware is consuming when you use AE to know whats your problem. Inside windows you can check in the task manager, and you can download other apps like GPU-Z to check your GPU.
