Link Layers in different composotions

Hello. I have a project with several compositions. All of then include same text graphics (different size, position etc).

Am I able to link (or something) the texts so that I would only need to write the text once, not again and again to different compositions.

Thanking in advance:)

Rami

I'm working on multiple screens and I have no such kind of issues. If working on one screen fixed that issue - good. Do that, but after you finish your project I would recomend you to update all of your scripts (specially those thay you have panlels on. Sometimes that is the reason. Or if you have everything up to date - try to close scripts one by one and check if your issue reacure.
F.eg. earlier version of script/plugin called Motion Factory was causing total freeze (spinning wheel/hourglass) of AE 16 - untill developer made update - that plugin was unusable.

You have the main app window spanning two monitors, or you have undocked panels on different monitors?

I still got a messed up file.  This time, it blacked out my whole computer screen after a few seconds, and then I couldn't even shut it down with CTRL+ALT+DEL!

It blacked out your computer how? You opened that file in what payer? What did you had to shut down?

Did you try to make any other composition/new project - even simplest animation of moving solids or text being writen and render it? If no - try to do that and let us know if that composition was rendered correctly. Or try to pou any video file into AE and export - render it as mp4.
That will help us to understand if there is something wrong with AE/AME or that exact composition.

video playback problem

Hi guys!! I'm new to after effects so if anyone can help with my problem or give me tips feel free... I really need it. I've been having trouble with the playback of my video once I import it.

I normally download in 1080p and set the resolution to a quarter so it;s easier to edit. When I check the downloaded video it is perfectly fine, no glitches, no colour issues, no lagging, nothing, but as soon as I import it into after effects and try to make a new composition everything is wrong. ae problem.png

As you can see from this picture, the image of the video in the corner is pink, while it's supposed to be white and grey. In the middle I fast forwarded the video so you can see what I'm talking about. It's glitching, the colour is completely off and when I play the actual video, it starts to stick and lag.

Can anyone tell my if I'm doing something wrong or if I should do something different, please and thank you

Choose one composition to be the 'master', then for all the others you can use an expression to force the text layer's source value to match the master.

Expand the text layer in the child comp, and alt-click on the stopwatch for "Source Text", then type in something like this:

comp("name_of_master_comp").layer("name_of_master_text_layer").text.sourceText

..adjusting the names appropriately. You can paste the same expression into every child comp.

Note this will not copy the formatting or typeface - so if you have any character-level changes such as superscripts or bullet points, it won't work.

The only solution I have found is to uninstall the program, and install an older version. I've had to do that for now until there is maybe a fix.

Aspect Ratio issue?

$

Hi All

First time poster with, what I assume to be, an aspect ratio issue causing the dreaded black bars at the side of my final output file.

All looks ok within the composition that the client has specced at 1366x565 to go on their website – but the bars appear after rendering out the file.

Screenshot 2018-12-30 at 14.13.30.png

The bars are really only a pixel or so wide, and quite difficult to see, but they are there!

Is there a simple adjustment I can make to either the size of the comp or the size of the video player on their site (I'm not building the site, but I can pass on suggestions) that will fix this issue? I've looked at some aspect ratio calculators and other posters questions with similar issues but I can't get my head around it!

Many thanks in advance!

Rob

Motion Tile Isnt Working

I need to use a motion tile with mirrored edges for a transition I'm making, but they arent showing up (first screenshot). Also, an error (screenshot at the very bottom) keeps popping up, even after lowering the output width and height to 200. Any help? The rendering bar is also moving very slowly.

try to expand you background by 1% so you will be sure that you cover this one pixel during render.

Nothing wrong with anything Adobe.  It turns out that using a Hewlitt Packard is the worst idea possible.  Since my first few iterations in trying to render the file, I stopped trying to playback the video on both VLC and Windows Media Players.  I started trying only VLC since that is what is set to automatically open media files.  After double-checking Windows Update, Adobe Updates, driver updates, I rendered one more file and decided to try Windows Media Player.

THE FILE FREAKING WORKED!

I tried opening it in VLC, and green screen!  So I hopped on VLC's website...turns out, HP and VLC doesn't always get along.

I just wanted to say thank you for all your help.  You probably solved this issue a week ago.  Because of all the crap I went through, and all the various settings I had to learn about, I actually reduced the time it is going to take for me to create videos!  Have a Happy New Year!

To what number? I've tried 400 (reccomended by other people), 300, 200, and 100.

So as for tiles not showing up - everything is working as it should. You are changing output not tile size so you are repoeating your layer but you can't see that because your layer is 100% in composition. To see repeated tiles you have to change tile size or optput but also change scale of your layer.

As for error - you probably exceeding pugin pixel limit.

If you are new to video follow these simple rules:

  • Do not create custom composition frame sizes until you have an experts understanding of video compression, video standards including frame rates, pixel aspect ratios, and frame sizes.
  • Do not work with Non-Square pixel aspect ratios - the only reason they are available in the render cue or AME is to render video back to the same format that was used to capture the video in the first place and cameras that use those frame sizes, pixel aspect ratios and compression schemes are out of production and no longer being developed. (The only exception is when you shoot with Anamorphic Lenses and if you are using those $$$$ professional lenses, you should already know how to handle anamorphic formats
  • If you create artwork for video do not use horizontal or vertical lines that you plan to move across the screen that is less than 3 pixels wide and line everything up with the pixel grid. DO NOT create artwork that has a standard non-square pixel aspect ratio frame size (720 X 480 for example) because AE will misinterpret that artwork every time
  • Avoid highly saturated colors right next to white or black because the edges will almost always act funny and end up with compression artifacts that spoil the design when the colors move across the screen

A single pixel edge in the rendered video almost always means that you are working with a non-standard frame size somewhere in your workflow. Media players will default to standard frame ratios and expect standard frame sizes. A video file that is run through a compressor to produce a copy for distribution must be an even number of pixels high and wide and ideally a multiple of 4 pixels so the compression scheme can work properly. If you want a solid color background always add a solid to the bottom layer of your video that is the same size as the composition.

These rules apply to any software used to create video content. Every NLE, compressor, motion graphics or visual effects software out there does not work well with odd frame sizes (531 X 1907), thin lines, saturated colors next to black or white solid colors, or detailed artwork that does not line up with the pixel grid that defines video.
