    Hello,

I try it but its dont work

Ok so it is really hard to say exactly what is happening but:
    a) your tracking is not so good if your text moves during playback and only thing to do is to make better tracking and make sure that you are placing your layer as close as possible to points that you are tracking
    b) as for your text not sitting properly - you have to make sure that all parameters like rotation, skew, scale and position are correct and close to diameters of your scene
    c) as for making it sit more "there" it al depends on how much there you need it to be. For sure you can do some extrusion, for sure give some lights (placing them as close to direction of lights ligting your scene on footage. You can also put some shadows that your text will cast on your round. But if you need it to make 100% believable you can prepare your text layer with some close to your footage texturing, bump maps, etc.

Unfortunately, your screenshot does not show is much about your composition. It would be much better if you had selected the layer or layers that are giving you problems and then pressed the U key twice to reveal all modified properties so we knew what layers were causing the problems and what you had done to them.

The most likely cause of a faint edge between mask layers is the anti-aliasing that is going on when edges don't precisely line up with the pixel grid. You can reduce the edge by changing the blend mode of the layers to Alpha Add. I see a yellow maks and a yellow layer and it does not look like they line up so I'm assuming that the masks are not perfectly aligned. I'm not sure why you could not have created this animation by just using one yellow layer and animating the path. I would have created this graphic entirely with Shape layers instead of masks. Red on the bottom, yellow on top in a single shape layer, then the textured gray layer at the bottom on its own layer. It makes a little more sense to me to do it that way. The texture layer only appears over the gray so it is not making much sense to put it on the top of the stack.

    I hope this helps.

I could be stating the obvious (sorry if so!) but have you tried switching the monitor view-port to 'Fast Draft'? We shouldn't have to but I find it makes a huge difference when working in in 2015-2018, not ideal for roto but it might be enough to get the job done? ...and yes 2014 is awesome, still is and I wish they would go back to that architecture.

Hi Gutterfish and Rick, thank you both very much for your help. Gutterfish, no it doesn't. That was actually the first thing I checked, but changing resolution to full didn't solve my problem.

Rick, here are some more picts to show what's going on. Just a little background here on the animation. I actually intend to animate these masks on a map of 1938 Europe to illustrate territorial changes resulting from the Munich Agreement. The grey layer is supposed to be Nazi Germany, the red layer Czechoslovakia, and the yellow would be Czechoslovakia's Sudetenland.

I was just doing a rough test with shapes first to stage the animation. Using masks seemed like an easy way to do it until I ran into the faint line problem.  I thought the easiest way to do the animation would be to wipe away the yellow layer using "mask expansion" in reverse since I wanted to show Germany ingesting the Sudetenland. So rather than wiping away the yellow layer in a north/south or west east direction, the "mask expansion" (in reverse) method allows me to show the yellow layer being eaten away by the grey layer from the outside in.

  • You need to be much more specific about what you're doing. Specifically, what comp resolution, frame rate, project bit depth, and Comp panel resolution you're using (Full, Half, Third, Quarter), as well as the type of project you're working on and the source assets you're using. Is there video mixed in here? If so, is it 4K MP4 or 1080 ProRes? Format and resolution will affect playback greatly. Are you keying, tracking, color correcting, or are you just working with shape layers?

As Dave said, that could be a perfectly normal render time.

Hello, I'm trying to set keyframes between 2 moments in time so that in one keyframe it is black and white (100%) and that from the second keyframe it is in it's original colour (0% opacity) but when I scroll through these 2 points, the opacity is gradually going down to 0% which I do not want.

  • Oh wow, didn't even think to look at all of that. Well im using a prepaid video template from envato. It was this (https://elements.envato.com/logo-build-V7TF3AP) Sorry I can not fully answer more. I am new to AE. but I will surely take into consideration for now on the information you have provided and will learn more about the software.

  • Templates like these are often very complex, and possibly moreso than necessary because a lot of extra work has to be done to make them user-friendly. It also looks like the Cinema 4D Render Engine might be involved or a lot of other stuff to make the 3D effect. If the C4D render engine is being used, then yes, that's going to slow things down a lot. There are also ways to optimize the performance of that render engine, but more information would be needed first before delving into that.

    Hi LazareC,

What's the version of Intel video driver on your machine?

Can you try downloading and installing this driver? Download Legacy Intel® Graphics Driver for Windows® 10

Let us know if this helps.

    Thanks,

    Rameez

    Hello,

I have what is probably a stupid question, with a simple answer: I cannot move the play head with the cursor.
I've imported a video and a jpg and moved them onto the timeline, but can't do a thing from here.
I see from tutorials that the playhead should be green: mine is blue.
I have tried adding a keyframe to no avail.
I'm using a PC if that helps, and CC 2019.
I'm a complete novice but familiar with other Adobe CC programs.
    Any advice eagerly accepted.

    Thank you.

    Hi nikolad,

Sorry to hear about your issue!

    • What kind of a computer and OS do you have?
    • Which version of After Effects are you using?
    • Were you using any customized workspaces for After Effects?

    Let us know.

    Rameez

So many years old, but I thought I'd throw out my solution to a similar problem with my masks not lining up in render where they had been in preview. I had to turn off the switches in those layers for motion blur, even though I'd already had motion blur turned off in the composition setting switch. Doing this solved my problem, and showed me that it was rendering the masks where they would have been had motion blur been turned on.

Good day, I recently upgraded to Mac OS Mojave. After doing that I get an error when I'm trying to install After Effects CC 2018, saying "This software cannot be installed on this computer" ... did some looking up and found out that many of the video programs aren't compatible with Mojave... is there any work around for this? (apart from downgrading)

Any help will be massively appreciated.

You should probably look up the System Requirements for AE.  You'll learn a lot.

Hey guys, I just discovered a super easy way to get rid of the fringe line in case anyone else runs into this problem. Apply a stroke of the same color as the background. Had no idea it was that simple, but it worked! Fringe line gone with gray stroke effect matching gray background. Problem solved.

Thank you both all the same for your help,
