Problem: Creating shape layer from Adobe Illustrator file in After Effects.

Hi Everyone,

I am able to create a shape layer from the .ai file, but when I do the handles are the size of the composition (image below). My original illustrator creation was made in the same window size as the after effects animation would be. Is there a way to have the shape layer just be the size of the shape?

I solved it. After the shape layer was created I expanded it under composition and found that it was also creating a shape the size of the screen.

It sounds like you need to do this in a 3D application.  If you're on a tight deadline, I wish you luck.

Trapcode Sound Keys Error

Hey,

I'm new here on Adobe, so I'm sorry if I don't use this discussion the right way. Also, excuse me for my bad English.

In the summer of 2017, I worked on several projects which used the effect Sound Keys from Trapcode (plug-in), Somewhere at the end of 2017, when I load up my projects, I get this message: '' Trapcode Sound Keys: Project or Favorite contains sequence data with wrong size. ''   My experience with Adobe After Effects CC 2015 is very low, so I couldn't find a solution, even though I searched months on the internet.

This is my first discussion, and I hope someone can help me with this error, please.

Regards

I have a new one lately, something about loading OpenGL command.

I already moved to Fusion, Davinci and when it comes to mograph, there isn't anything that I cant do in C4D. I very much understand your final statement. It is ridiculous that after every update I have new errors with AE and zero solution for years.

AE's Keyboard Visualizer is only available in AE CC 2018 and newer.

Yeah that's a frustating problem.

Here's one solution though: Dropbox - Example.aep

Steps:

You have to copy paste the path into your object position.

Put the first keyframe at time 0 and the last one at time 1. Leave them in linear interpolation.

Precompose your object.

Enable time-remapping on your precomposed comp and link your Time-remapping property value to your trim path value divided by 100.

Sounds complicated but it's not. Just download the file and have a look.

Could it be a working solution for you?

Cheers

I completely agree David! I dont believe I've ever mastered any program ever. Not even the basics like Word Excel (e.g. vba eek) etc. I understand that with any program you simply have an awareness whats possible, then learn as you go when you need to do a particular function. Also google is my friend =) I just need strong foundation to launch from.

In that case I will do 100% do Photoshop first then premiere pro a week apart..... then after effects 1 month after? or do you think I should wait alot longer before even thinking of after effects?

I was thinking of putting maybe 2-3 months inbetween the photoshop/premiere pro essentials and their advanced courses.

I'm going to book both the illustrator essential and advanced course as well. You've all opened my eyes =)

Thanks for confirming that Rob!

From all the responses in this thread this is my current master plan in order of completion:

1) Photoshop Essentials (June 18th-19th)

2) Premiere pro essentials (June 25th-26th)

3) Illustrator (June 28th-29th) is back to back with premiere pro in 1 week bad? Alternative date below

Gap of maybe 1 months....

4) After effects (July 26th - 27th) Dave you mentioned I should delay after effects for a while. is 1 month enough or should I push this back maybe 3-6 months?

5) Alternatively:  Illustrator (August 20-21)

Then a few months (maybe not enough of a gap?) later the advanced version of them all:

6) After Effects Advanced (October 1st-2nd) Don't know if its ok to do after effects advanced before the other advanced

7) Premiere pro advanced (October 4th-5th) Same week as After effects advanced

8) Photoshop advanced (October - 10- 11th October)

9) Illustrator Advanced (November 22-23rd)

I realise the advanced courses are in the opposite order of what was recommended for the essentials. is this much of an issue? the dates just happen to be like that so far (unless they add more dates soon down the line then I can put them back in the order of Photoshop, premiere, aftereffects for advanced)

thanks so much to everyone for helping me plan this mammoth schedule. I'm a little scared looking at it haha I feel its almost there

Slow renders with media encoder

Does any else experience renders being much slower in Media Encoder over AE render queue?

Sometimes the media encoder renders will take 10 times longer. I have a 4 core processor with 8 threads. after effects will only use no more than 25% of my CPU while media encoder can use up to 100% of my CPU, but still render much slower.

Pin waveform on composition panel to keep visible.

Hello everyone.

I have a little inquiry. I'm doing an online basic course of AE (I'm using AE CS6 because my iMac is kinda old (late 2012)), and right now I'm doing an animation which requires to move objects along the beat of a song. The thing is that right now I have almost 20 layers and the waveform one is in the very bottom of the composition view and because of my screen resolution (1920x1080) it seems quite uncomfortable to work on it because I have to move up and down constantly. I want to know if there is any function or option in AE that allows me to work in a split view (like in MS Word) or that allows me to keep that layer visible during the time I'm editing it?

I would really appreciate your help. I've looking for something like that for hours but still have no luck.

Just drag the audio layer anywhere you like in the timeline. There is no reason it can't be one layer above or below the layer you are editing.

Has this STILL not been fixed?

It's 2018. You introduced this problem back in 2015. That's three years. I keep going back to avoid the stuff you broke with playback... that's like 3 years worth of features I'm missing.

How to get/create an extrusion from an original .psd

There is no such thing. 3D works completely different and you can spend all day looking for AE-based tutorials to solve your conundrum, you won't find any. You are simply approaching this completely wrong. This is the point in your life where you can't avoid learning a 3D program and to that end simply forget all that Adobe nonsense. You won't find what you need there. Download the free Blender or buy a commercial 3D app. Otherwise simply hand off the work to an established 3D artist.

Start by turning off hardware-accelerated encoding.

How to transform to enclose rectangular object in scene?

$

I have a handheld video which contains a TV (not straight-on, and not filling the video frame), and I'm trying to produce from that a stabilised video of just the TV screen itself, as a rectangle which fills the whole video.

Note : I am just beginning with After Effects, so apologies if I'm missing something really simple!

The only way I've found to do this so far is to apply a corner pin effect, manually dragging the corners out until the TV screen fills the canvas and is aligned correctly.  I then add keyframes throughout the video to update the transform as the handheld camera moves.  However, this is very manually intensive, and I feel like I'm probably missing a much better way to do it.

Here's a simple example, note that in the bottom screenshot where I've applied the corner pin transform, the top/bottom right pins are way off the screen because the transform is so severe.  The corner pins haven't been placed very accurately here, so the fit around the screen is a bit off.

Is there some way I can use the tracking tools to do this instead?  I've tried using the perspective corner pin tracker to track the 4 corners of the TV as the camera moves, and that creates a pretty good 4-corner track.  But I can't find any way to transform my video so that it fits into the 4 corners of the tracked object.  All the tutorials I can find on this are about how to insert different video content onto the stabilised TV screen, and that's not what I'm trying to do.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Impossible to know. You have not provided any exact info about the contents of the project, settings, system info. Aside from version-specific compatibility issues therefore nobody can really tell you much. Start by installin g the appropriate version of SK.

But I can't find any way to transform my video so that it fits into the 4 corners of the tracked object.

That's what the Corner Pin effect does already. Simply apply the tracking data to your target layer and AE will do the rest. You might want to re-read/ re-watch a tutorial.

You have to take this up with Autodesk. They provide all the plug-ins. Not Adobe's party.
