Hi Jesper,
Camera motion tracking is indeed best achieved in Ae, rather than PPro, although both applications work seamlessly together through dynamic link, as shown in the tutorial video you linked to. From PPro you can replace any given clip with an Ae composition, which sends the clip from PPro to Ae for further tweaking.
Inside Ae, just follow the tutorial step by step (make sure you use Track Camera not Track Motion in Ae) and select a big enough plane (which may consist of multiple camera tracking points) and it should work. It may be that the source file gets attached at a wrong place in 3D space, however, so you may need to adjust the X, Y and/or Z position values. If that can't be done, tweak the Anchor settings instead.
Please share a working link of your YouTube video so we can all see what you're trying to achieve.
Hi -
I think thats what I did. I made it once, but I cannot reproduce the success
the link should work now
Before creating a text or a null object, you have to make sure the desired tracking points remain visible for the length of the track. Simply scrub through the timeline to make sure this is the case. If not, find other tracking points that do and create your plane there. It's easy enough to place the desired object in another location, using either the position or anchor values.
Moved to AE forum.
Yes!
We waiting for a fix.
According to Red Giant:
"It looks like the slow down you're seeing when using Colorista may be part of an issue our developers are tackling between the panel and GTX cards specifically. Unfortunately this will take time to dig into on account it involves a bit of collaborative resources between Nvidia's team and ours".
it tells me light wrap is missing
there is no native light wrap effect. this is a 3rd party plugin probably by red giant. if you find it missing, you should re-install it.
The spot that I picked is visible all the time in the clip
Okay, that is weird behavior.
Have you tried to create a different tracking area? Sometimes the wonders of Ae can be tricky...
Yes - tried that too. Still the same.
Can I somehow create a camera and do something ith the snail icon?
(sorry for the newbie terms)
Mylenium, a cache is not a cache for the simple reason that read and write times are much shorter for a RAM disk than for a hard drive, as my numbers clearly show. (49 min versus 72 min). Agreed that disk speed is not everything, but it does contribute to overall reduction in render times, which is a goal for everyone.
I did not know that the exr loader was badly programmed. Thank you for clarifying.
I am baffled by your comment that a faster processor might help "if at all". A faster processor indicates more rapid calculation, and therefore reduction in total render time. Again, other factors such as effective programming enter into consideration, but surely a faster processor does contribute to a reduction render times.
My investigation was to determine optimisation of allocation of RAM. Along the way, I discover that MP slows down render times for a RAM disk cache, but does not affect render times for an HD cache, at least for my specific comp and its layers. This is worthy of note in this forum.
Hi guys,
im having trouble with the rendering.
Im rendering 15sec of an intro i did and it takes like 3 hours or more to render.
i have a 1080ti geforce, i7-7700 and 16gb ram.
Can i do something about this or is it normal?
btw i have all files on ssd internal
edit: its windows, after effects cc 2015

what to do?
Does your system have a single SSD or multiple? It's good practice to separate functions: one SSD for programs, one for source data and one for temp storage.
16GB of RAM seems a little on the low side to me; how much have you reserved for Ae and other Adobe Apps?
Also, what does your intro entail? Please check if you have set it to 8-bit or 16/32-bit rendering. Also, if you have any images included, make sure you pre-process them through Photoshop, changing them from 300dpi tot 72dpi.
I am having a problem doing a Displacement Map on an imported layer from Photoshop.
The layer is a side-angle profile shot of a guys head. There's not background or border, it's just a photo that I lasso'd out his head only. The goal is to make an animation where he's walking across the screen from left to right, and kind of shaking his head left to right as he strides. In other words I need this 2d layer to look like he's slightly turning his head towards the camera and then slightly turning it away.
These are the steps I've taken so far. I got these from a youtube tutorial where the guy got it to work. So I'm not sure why this isn't working for me...
Import the .psd into my AE project
Pull the photoshop layer (Guy's Head) into the composition
Duplicate the Photoshop layer
On the duplicated layer, use the brush tool to draw in the dark parts (further away) and the light parts (closer)
Add gaussian blur to this colored layer
Precompose this layer and name it Depth Comp
Hide Depth Comp and select it
Go to Effects > Distort > Displacement Map
Toggle the displacement map to get it to move.
This seemed to work in this guys tutorial:

Any help is appreciated. Thanks!
I did a project last week that took about 7 minutes a frame and that was normal and expected for what I was doing. Last night I rendered another project and the rendering speed was about 40 frames a minute. That was also normal for that type of project. Both were 4K.
Without workflow details and project specifications it's impossible to know if your render speed is slow. The only way you can know if it is slow is to gain enough experience using AE to know how long specific tasks take to render. Welcome to the world of compositing and motion graphics. It take aa while to render.
Ok, I will experiment a bit and follow up.
Hi, Rick. Thank you.
I downloaded your preset but AE says it's not a supported file format.
Precompose this layer and name it Depth Comp
BTW, Don't have to as of CC2017 compound effects have effect toggle that allows you to use the effect on your matte without the need to precompose.
Go to Effects > Distort > Displacement Map
you are applying it to the source layer, not the depth matte, right?
show us some screenshots and be specific what exactly is not working for you.
