Please us know the value of time stretch your using. I took a video in AE and added a time stretch factor of 10% & than choose the Time-Reserve Layer from the layer menu. It preview the cached fames in real time without any issue. I am using AE 2018 version on Mac OS X High Sierra 10.13

Hi Kevin, thanks for getting in touch, problem solved - I had ray trace renderer turned on and the graphics were in 3d. Switched to classic and it's back to normal

I think one important point to boost my system is to split up the OS/programs and the project files/cache. In order to my old CPU the new generation will lift the workflow a little bit. I understand that this system is by far not as good as a workstation from HP. I'm asking for the little differences between different CPUs/SSDs.

CC 2018 Not importing psd layers
I'm trying to import a psd into after effects to animate individual layers, like I've always done, but I'm just getting a single, flat psd layer. Even if I choose to import as comp and select retain layer sizes. Help?

That gives you the same thing as the tilde key, a full screen comp panel, not a full screen video preview As it would appear when using a media player full screen.

Hmmm. Couple thoughts off the top of my head.
8GB isn't much in the way of RAM as far as AE is concerned, but it shouldn't be causing an issue like this.
So, you're saying you're having the same issue in an older version of AE as well?
Is this happening with one specific image, or any image?
Are you able to do other tasks in AE, or is doing *anything* locking it up?
Have you previously been able to do things in AE, and now you can't? Or this has been your experience from the beginning?
Have you checked to see if your video card drivers are up to date?
Do you appear to be having any other display or RAM-related issues?
In AE, under Preferences > Memory, what are the settings like in there?
It looks like you've only got one hard drive - is it super full?
Try Edit > Purge > All Memory and Disk Cache. Any improvement after that?

Face tracking detailed features
I have the newest After Effects and I have been watching some youtube videos about the face
tracking and I haven't had any luck with it working (or at least working according to the videos)
Here are the steps that I have done.
1. Import mp4 video.
2. Make an ellipse mask around the face.
3. With the mask selected, I use the Tracking, Face detailed features.
All the videos that I have watched show different tracking points put on
the mask as it tracks the face. When I do it, these points do not show up.
Again from the videos, there is a now a "effects" tab in the left hand corner.
I have one but it is empty.
Also in the video it shows in the left hand corner of the timeline, you have a
effects tab with all the different pinpoints such as left eye, chin, etc. I don't
have this. All my pinpoints are showing under "mask path"
I am following the videos step by step. Is there something in the newest release
of After Effects that changes this? Not sure what I am doing wrong or if
maybe it is something about my videos. (I have tried with two different videos
with no luck)

I will verify that this will indeed give you an actual fullscreen preview, with none of the AE UI. This only works while actually running the preview though, not while working.

Create a new RGB PSD File using a photo. Add a single text layer. Save and import as a comp in AE. If that works as expected carefully inspect your problematic PSD file and look for live layers, layer styles, or anything else that may cause you problems. Don’t forget to make sure the mode is set to RGB.

Probably you are using a CMYK PSD file. This is a common problem. Open the file in Photoshop and go to Image > Mode to check the color space. If you are using other than RGB, AE will not import Layers.

Then try to delete the AE preferences before doing the previous steps. As soon as you launch AE press Command/Ctrl+Alt+Shift. You will be prompted to delete AE preferences file. Click Yes and follow the steps we told you in the previous answer.
Anyway I would like to ask you a couple of things:
Did you have installed a previous version of AE?
What version is C4D Studio?

So instead of moving around all the points, is there a way to just delete the mask and generate a new keyframe with different points?

hey Rick. no it seems that this gives the full screen, not only the active area. it's weird that this is such a mystery. doesn't everybody want to preview full screen at some point during editing?

Just discovered reset to square/ellipse, kind of what i want. But would be better to be able to draw out a mask using the pen tool. Is that possible? Still looking.
