Thank you so much!
Re: Color of SOLID layer
Re: Can AE import .CR2 or .NEF files?
Nobody can tell you much without exact file and system info. You have not told us what cameras you actually use. That said, there could be any number of issues from bad metadata in the files to several current bugs in LR/ Camera Raw preventing correct application of parametric adjustments or not updating file previews and whatnot...
Nikon D3/D4 and Canon 5D Mk2 specifically. Running AE 2014.2 on OSX 10.10.2. Camera Raw is 8.7.1.311. I've tried importing the NEF and CR2 files straight from the card dumps into AE and also via Lightroom after making some tweaks with no luck. DNG's work fine.
I just imported a bunch of NEFs into AE. No problem. Adobe's Photoshop raw convertor opens up first on each one so adjustments can be made. I don't have any Canon rigs so can't help you there.
However, I do not find importing NEFs ideal at all. The files are huge at 44M, way larger than necessary for anything I can imagine doing, even in 4k. I'd much rather be using full size jpeg versions of these NEFs.
Why do you want to use the raw images?
Hmm, strange. I've tried on a few machines at work, all running the same version of CC and OSX. No dice.
The project is a time lapse with a lot of night to day so ideally I'd like to do most of my WB and exposure corrections live in AE if possible. It's not the end of the world if I had to convert to JPEG or DNG but it would be nice to have the option to work native.
Re: AFTER EFFECTS WISHLIST
I'm sure many of these have already been said, but here goes:
- Swatches (I mean, seriously guys, how long has it been now?)
- Timeline folders/groups (allowing you to collapse and uncollapse groups of layers similar to grouping in photoshop layers)
- Unmult/premult modes available without needing a plugin
- I've always dreamt of a day in which I could do custom keyboard shortcuts...

You can batch the images in Lightroom or PS and make color correction one at a time. Or you can import the jpeg sequence and keyframe color adjustments in Premiere or AE.
There are a few time-lapse forums where AE, Premiere, and Speedgrade are assumed to be the everyday tools and are discussed regularly. I don't visit any of those sites any longer and have deleted the URLs but they can't be too hard to find. I think one was called timescapes. I think you're going to find lots of folks are shooting timelapse with DSLRs and they all have the same issues and they are congenial and friendly.
How to draw an animated fissuring stroke or frontier ?
Hi everybody,
I'm looking for a way to create a realistic effect which would consist in a fissuring stroke (or frontier), second per second (2 ou 3). It's just a simple stroke I use to separate two countries on a map, my goal is to create a kind of cracking or fissuring frontier between the two to highlight the conflict. I thought about creating several strokes then animate them one by one thanks to keyframes, but I guess this is not the most realistic way.
Thank you in advance.

In order
Swatches... About 22 Years. Those little colour blocks are tricky you know.
Timeline Folders. Again been asked for... for about 22 Years. They made it work in Flash no problem... But then the dev seem to get upset about it and Confuse it with "Pre comps" - Well just pre comp it... like you did in 1998. Then they talk about Uber twirl and get all excited and go have a lie down and a sleep. Then forget about it for another year... I know lets add a completely confusing matte tool that take 2 hours to set up then it loses all it's information and you have to start from scratch.
Unmult: There are a lot of things that Should just exist without Plugins... but at least Knoll Unmult is free.
Custom Keyboard Shortcuts: Get a mac You can just use the System built in Custom Keyboard shortcuts .... or KeyedUp script - though some seem to find that is not working in 2014. Or you can use the 'reveal preference folder button' Preferences at the bottom in General and edit the txt file... But yes.... again this is something asked every year... for you guessed it... 22 years
Re: How do I stop a mask from disappearing mid clip? I want it to stay still till the end but I can't figure out how or why it keeps going away.
Re: AFTER EFFECTS WISHLIST
Oh and Non modal pop up windows....Like properties and Comp settings etc. Just have them as normal Panel. Damn I hate Modal windows. Main reason I stopped using 3DS Max.
I know it's hard to allocate features vs Fixes to programmers, but seriously the engine of AE really needs an overhaul.
Multi proc fails constantly.
Export is now both a joy and a pain in equal measures.
To be honest I'd be off to nuke studio in a shot if their pricing was better.
Re: AFTER EFFECTS WISHLIST
Andrew, why am I not surprised? Seems like very common requests and I figured I wouldn't be the first for any of them... For the keyboard shortcuts, I'm on a mac, not sure what relevance is there, but I will look into those other methods. Thanks!

Re: AFTER EFFECTS WISHLIST
On a mac you can just go to:
1: Mac System Preferences > Keyboard > Shortcuts
2: Left panel > App shortcuts
3: + to add after effects from the Application
4. Type in the Exact Menu Title such as:
Add to Render Queue
Add to Adobe Media Encoder Queue...
Trim Comp to Work Area
5. Add the short Cut.
If it's in the Menu you can add it.

That's what nearly the entire After Effects team has been working on for most of a year now.
Re: AFTER EFFECTS WISHLIST
Thanks Prowl, this is a useful resource to know about for other apps as well!

Now that is good news - Was that anything to the mysterious blank 'Performance' panel that appeared for a while?
Now if you could only whip out some...
OpenCL love for the 3D.
More intuitive timelines curves
Nodes and uber twirl
and for the love of Zod... a 3d workspace that makes sense like an actual 3d program...
Re: warning that the GPU accelerated ray-traced 3D renderer does not have enough free memory to operate
hey Todd
i have the exact same problem but with my new macpro with renderay no matter what i do even a simple 3d extraction the renderay crashes! My cuda is full up to date and everything not sure why! if you have any way to resolve this issue would be awesome and help us out since i am on a deadline! at the moment!
I have attached a few screen shots and my computer specs! as you can see the GPU Should not be running low on memory xD since its pretty much nearly full speced!
The error!
This is what was there! and all i added was a extractor after this and the error above appears!
and this is my computer specs as you can see there is no lack of Power, Ram or VRAM here! so not sure why this error is occurring even after updating CUDA
if you have anything else i could try please let me know! Thanks!
Re: Export issue with quicktime in CS6
Youtube sample, it is more obvious during the 2nd verse, the timing was frame perfect for when the words came out. Take me to church typography - Corrupt Edits - YouTube
Re: Export issue with quicktime in CS6
I can reupload the youtube preset version but they play the exact same both files
Re: After Effects CS4 crash report (PLZ HELP I NEED IT WORKING DESPERATELY)
But I had it working for an entire week. with no problems
Re: AE CC: Will no longer collect files
Wow! Glad I found this.
The not moving the mouse trick worked for me too!
After Effects CC 2014.2 on OS X 10.10.2
Re: Every time I open After Effects CC, it says "After Effects warning: could not use "Interpretation Rules.txt" file because of a syntax error on line 1. (39 :: 116)". And then it will say after I say yes "After Effects can't continue: unexpected failure
Delete the interpretation rules file. Then After Effects will create a default version of the file the next time it starts.
Re: Workflow: Lighting After Effects and Cinema 4D
just to let you know: I decided to follow your recommandation and I agree that - even if you don't know C4D very much - it saves you a lot of time to learn some lighting basics there instead of fiddling around in AE. Thanks!
