Re: how to I lengthen text effects

It sounds like you have a different kind of keyframe (Continuous Bezier?).  But if you can highlight it, you can move it.

See what I mean about AE quirks?  There are quite a few different kinds of keyframes.

Definitely! I will look up these then. I think I might need to take a few steps back and work from square one. Thanks again for all your help!

I'll take a stab at this....

Get rid of all the compressed audio in your AE comp -- mp3, ac3, etc. -- and replace them with wav or aiff files.  AE doesn't like compressed audio.

This depends entirely on your illustration. If you have a bunch of 1 point or 1 pixel wide lines in the illustration then you have a problem resizing or moving the image even with CR turned on. Scaling down is a problem because there is no such thing as a half a pixel, and moving is problematic because the thin lines must line up with the pixel grid.

Most illustrations will resize to just fine, either up or down with CR turned on Provide that they do not have any Rastor effects like drop shadow or blur applied in Illustrator.

Thank you for answering, but what I actually want to create is a kind of crack with little lines on the left and right. A bit like the fissure on this photo (even if the fissure I want is not supposed to be in 3D.) cracked-floor-background-21811733.jpg

During our process of switching platforms, I've found this bug on the Windows side only. It's re-producable every time on the Windows machines. The issue does not occur on Mac platform. Can anyone here confirm that Red Giant is actually aware of this bug?

quick steps to re-produce:

make comp

add solid

add particular v2.2.3 to solid

pre comp

add freeze frame keyframe to pre-composed layer

If you don't want 3D then you can draw your mask following the same shape that you posted, then do as suggested, use multiple copies and move them apart or animate the mask path to make the crack open up. If your drawing skills need improvement just import that image and trace the cracks then set a mask path keyframe at about 3 seconds and move the CTI to the first frame and move the mask points together to form to a single line. Adjust the timing and position to get the look you want.

If you want it to have edges, then you have to create artwork with edges or stack copies of your layers on top of each other offsetting each copy by one pixel in the right direction. I would offset in Z using this expression for position in a 3D layer then duplicate the layer until I had enough copies to create the depth needed, then I would add a 3D null, make the null the parent of the copied layers, then rotate the null 90º in X to lay the layer down and precompose the entire group and enable collapse transformations.

Oops... here's the expression:

[value[0], value[1], value[2]+index]

Re-link C4D Comp in AE

Hello,

I just started out with C4D so this is a very basic question (if there is a better thread for C4D lite help please inform me.) I created a small animation in C4D lite using a comp link in AE. It worked fine until I closed out of C4D lite, there is now a frozen frame of the animation in AE, I tried re-opening C4D lite but the comp remains frozen. How do I re-link this? Also how do I render the C4D file so that I will not need it to remain open while I work in AE.

best,

Alex

Acceleration of the ray-traced renderer works with Optix library technology on CUDA cards from NVIDIA. You can't accelerate the ray-traced renderer on any card that doesn't have both things.

That is likely one of the reasons Adobe has stopped developing the ray-traced renderer. If you are trying to render a ray-traced comp, try turning it back to the standard renderer instead of the ray-traced renderer. It should be much faster. If you want 3d in AE, use this - it comes free with AE CC and later and it is much more powerful! Alternatively (and much faster to render), try Element 3d or Zaxwerks 3d Invigorator - two third-party plugins that are very fast. Not as powerful as the link I gave you, but the results from them are astounding considering the render time and your card will likely work with them (the AMD one, not the other one).

The whole point(lessness) of Cineware is to get you on a leash and not render your files from C4D. When rendering from there, the output resolution is limited. The rest we can't know. You have not provided any proper system information, version info, details about your C4D file.

Why is my .psd file not rendering correctly in ae

Some layers of the .psd document are not rendered correctly. However they are imported.

The strange thing is that when I first move from Photoshop to Illustrator, save it as an .ai file it is rendered properly (in Ae).

I am kind of clueless as to what is causing this issue.

Kind regards,

Jelle

and so are we. You have not provided any useful info like system info, versions used, details about your PSD, a screenshot of the PS layer palette and whateever you can think of.

tiny request: I'd love to have the labels color picker to show the actual colors of the labels instead of using their names. It makes me crazy every time

Well I think that's because you can rename them to be whatever you want... but I see your point.  The layers in C4D are much more adaptable - Actually can you please make the whole interface like C4D which is completely customisable. That'd be nice.

Also, when I make an error in an expression, THAT alert box... I hate it! Just turn the stopwatch to red, and just let me do as many errors as I want. Super annoying!

Okay if more information is needed, i'll provide. However you may disregard my initial comment about illustrator. It flattens the photoshop layers so I do not have any flexibility in After Effects. In other words, my main question remains: why is my psd file not rendering correctly in ae?

Further details:

-photoshop cc and after effects cc.

-macbook pro retina

If still not clear enough, please tell me what details you are looking for furthermore

Re: Repeated Failed Rendering 4k composition in After Effects CC

Adobe support went through the full composition for rendering with me over the phone and via remote desktop access. We were able to figure out that it is not my computer having enough thump to push the rendering process. It seems that I have issues with one of the layers or effects applied to the layers in my compositions. Adobe was unable or I guess unwilling to go through the project and give guidance on what the problem in the composition might be. They can only provide support for the program, which was a bit disappointing. It was interesting to find out that adobe now prefers that you use the media encoder for all rendering processes. The tech let me know that your computer will only use your graphics card when the cpu needs help rendering. Is there a a way to force adobe media encoder to just use the GPU as the primary for the rendering? He said this was not possible.

I am going to render to still frames this evening and see if I can render the comp in 2 sequences. It seems like this could be my easy fix. The Ram preview works and I have been able to export portions of the ram preview ( I have 16GB RAM currently adding another 16GB this week).

It looks like I have 2 options at this point to fix my comps. for final output

-completely rebuild everything from scratch

-go through each layer, effect, composition and reset each and try to render to isolate the problem. (very time consuming as it already takes 15-20 min to render each time)

It will probably be faster for me to redo the entire project over again. I have already spent to much time troubleshooting as is. I will provide updates as figure out the fix.

I am running the latest version of CC on OSX Yosemite and the .c4d file was created in the project panel of AE. What other information do you need?
