Adding to this discussion, because I am also experiencing this exact same issue with 2017:
"This happens, in both After Effects 2017 and earlier versions where the space bar preview, or any other form of normal RAM preview, i.e. button click, or using the 0 key on the numpad, no longer works. The green bar fills up as it caches the shot into RAM, but then I get just one or two frames of real time playback, maybe more if I'm lucky, but never the entire shot and then it just stops dead. I can scrub just fine, but I can't preview an entire shot. I've been using AE for almost 11 years now and never had an issue like this."
Only restarting After Effects solves the problem. It's getting to be where AE is very difficult to use.

After effects Template Load in problems
Hi
I am new to after effects but have looked through a few tutorials my problem is a recently purchased an awards ceremony template from video hive. upon loading in into aftereffect I get a pop up saying after effects warning the project contains references to missing effects. please install the following effects to restore these references
1) "Form"
2) "Particular"
I click okay witch brings up another pop up reading Warning this project uses fonts that are currently not available on this computer, front substitution will occur until the originals become available. Then below it has three boxes
1 sync from tyekit ( I cant select it )
2 get from typekit (I cant select it)
3 Unresolvable (will be substituted with default font) (I cant edit this )

so as a result of the two pop up the template does not load in properly and some of the functions like editing and previewing don't work. Does anyone know how to fix these problems. are they to do with after effects of the template its self?

Generally, when you purchase a template, the vendor use to include two versions of the project (not always): one with effects for future manipulations and another one with pre-rendered movies for those who don't own third party filters. For the fonts, it's the same. A lot of vendors use royalty free fonts in their templates, but not always.
To solve the missing effects references you have to buy Trapcode Form and Trapcode Particular individually or as a part of the Trapcode Suite. Enter www.redgiant.com to check it.
For the fonts, I've checked and it looks like the Humanist font is part of Typekit (included in Creative Cloud) and Kelson can be downloaded from fontsquirrel.com.
Anyway, I would suggest you to contact with the vendor and try to get support from them.

its not an overclocking issue.
i think it’s an audio issue.
experiment with different audio devices as your default windows sound device. Disable your audio input, mess around with alll your audio devices and reset your settinga every time you open an adobe app by holding shift and alt.
im using x299 and have had many of these issues but there seems to be a work around. Still not 100% sure but i think it’s an audio device thing. Good luck

if only install 14.2.1, creative cloud can't display AE is installed.

Re: After Effects CC 2017 RAM preview problem
I was talking about generating preview first, without playing - the green line grows in the indicated time as it is rendering preview and plays in real time after it was rendered all - when there was too little RAM it was still rendering, but slowly - sometimes I waited two minutes or so to preview 30s, but I could wait. Here it just stops rendering after 2 sec, no matter which render settings I'm using and there are only two solutions - smaller composition or buying more RAM
You can do this in the current version if you check "cache before playback" in the preview panel. But it wouldn't make any difference to how much time you can preview. If the RAM is full, it's full. If you are previewing very large comps, keep in mind that this will take more RAM as well. You can consider lowering the preview resolution.
It does sound strange that it would stop rendering after two seconds "regardless of which settings you use". Lowering the resolution at least should give you longer previews (since each frame takes less memory to cache). So possibly there are still other issues at play.

Can not see seconds in timeline After Effect
2017 version, Just installed. it alternates between this on photo and fps.
Tried this, not working:
To cycle through Timecode Base, or Frames/Feet + Frames (depending if you have the “Use Feet + Frames” option checked in the Project Settings), Ctrl-click (Windows) or Command-click (Mac OS) the current-time display. The current-time display is in the upper-left corner of the Timeline panel and at the bottom of the Layer, Composition, and Footage panels. (See Timeline panel.)
The option that is not selected in Project Settings will be displayed as smaller text underneath. To display only the option selected in Project Settings (Timecode or Frames), do the following:
Open Display preferences by selecting After Effects > Preferences > Display (Mac OS) or Edit > Preferences > Display (Windows). Deselect the Show Both Timecode and Frames in Timeline Panel option (this option is selected by default). To change time display units, choose File > Project Settings, and choose from the options in the Time Display Style section

After Effects: Can I export as motion graphics template when using a team Project?
Hello,
I'm trying to figure out if it's possible to export a composition as a Motion Graphics template when I'm working on a Team project.
I've setup my composition with a text layer, added a supported property but the "Export Motion Graphics Template" is not clickable (see screenshot).
Does anyone have also this issue or am I missing a step?
