Nice catch, that could be it. 

 

My problem went away when I tried doing a clean install of the Windows April Update on my NVMe, instead of the Oct Update.  And so far everything is working fine while still having my old SSD system drive mounted (also on the April Update).  So perhaps the issue was having both an Oct and Apr build mounted at the same time.  However I think I did have the NVMe mounted solo during some of my testing yesterday (Oct build only) and still had the problem.

 

I'm going to leave this question unanswered for now in case I gain more insight from testing this weekend.  Is anyone else here running the Windows Oct Update with no issues?

Does anyone know why Premiere Pro and After Effects would be doing this on playback. It started doing this randomly and I have no clue how to fix it.

I came upon this thread because I'm having the same issue. In 2019! C'mon.

 

And hey Rick, it doesn't look like you're faithfully recreating the conditions. The Vector layer should be a 3d Object, animated and pre-comped. This pre-comp, within a new comp, is then set to constantly rasterize as this is the only way to have the pre-comp's 3D layers rotate, separate, and move on a 3D plane outside of its pre-composition.

 

In my example, you can see the BG detail (blue semi-circle; from the same source file) is as sharp as the composition allows it, and yet the diamond shape (which rotates in 3D) is pre-comped and is staircasing like crazy. It's beyond "blurry." It's jagged, ugly, and in fact, it's disproportionate from its original design.

 

If I turn off the CR, then all the 3D animations are flattened to the comp's plane. All the glows, drop shadows, and reflections would be for naught. Any alternative solutions to what I'm trying to achieve?

I am working on a project in AE 2019. After adding expressions, my project has slowed down immensely. The express is keeping 3 layers of text "attached" to each other as the text updates. I just updated AE and emptied the cache and restarted the computer - same result - extremely slow.

I spoke too soon. My first track in 2018 went smoothly, but since then, I can get analysis to finish but solve hangs indefinitely.

 

Camera tracking for 360 footage is broken for me at this point.

 

zeno_more: Could you explain your method a bit more or point me in the right direction?

Thank you for reporting this problem. In a simple test with the Bilateral Blur and Levels effects, I do not reproduce this problem in After Effects 16.0.1.

I have six computers running the Adobe CC2019 suite.  They all exhibit this behavior. It started small and has become worse ever since. The problem:

 

If i have a Photoshop file (.psd) in an After Effects 2019 project, then use "Edit Original" (CTRL-E) to have the file open in Photoshop for editing, I get the error...

"After Effects error: cannot locate an application to open [file name].psd.   (1 :: 77)"

 

 

Beyond that, when opening a .psd file from Windows 10 by double-clicking it, I will sometimes be asked by Windows what program I want to use to open it. I can choose Photoshop and check the box for "Always use this program for this filetype". But, moments later I will get the same prompt when opening another .psd file. I've also tried to set the default application for .psd files in Windows from the Default App Settings.  It currently says the "Windows Picture Viewer" is the default application for .psd files. When I try to change it and select Photoshop CC2019 for the default program, nothing happens. The default program remains "Windows Picture Viewer."

 

I can't be the only one having this problem. Like I said, I have six computers that all are having this problem. Anyone else seeing this in CC2019?

I am having an issue with a little after effects video I am working on. In my After Effects file I have two Illustrator files that change positions by way of the Z axis, and it worked at first. I had 3D layers selected on both objects and everything. In the video I have one object remain stationary, while the other object moves from behind to the front. Then I open the illustration of the layer that is moving, and remove the stroke I had around the illustration. When I return the the After Effects file, the 3D positioning stops working. The layer that had previously gone from the back to the front, now just stays in the background. I check the layers panel, and 3D layers is still selected on both Illustrator files. I then check their positions and the object in the background should be moving to the foreground, but it doesn't.

 

I did some research on my own, and the only thing I could find was that layer styles could be affecting the 3D positioning. That couldn't be it because I'm not using Photoshop files, and I don't have any layer styles on my Illustrator files. I then check my After Effects version to see if there were any updates, and I am on the lates one. Could this be a bug? I'm not sure why removing a stroke from my Illustrator document would keep 3D positioning from working in After Effects.

Hello, i have a very rare problem, when i click on "create text and camera" in the 3d tracking, AE crashes. I dont know how to solve this and its boring me

It might not be related to AE. I recently had a similar problem with illustrator .eps files.  I think it happened after updating to latest version of Bridge.  The affiliation got broke and I couldn't open the files from inside Bridge.  I had no option to "open with" and manually setting the file association would not take just as you described.  The fix was resetting Illustrator's preferences.  So maybe try resetting Photoshop's preferences.  Hold down CTRL+ALT+SHIFT while launching PS to reset the preferences.

Go to light 1 in Adobe premiere Pro and change spotlight to directional.

That should do the trick.

In After Effects, the default when pasting an effect from one layer to another is to replace the existing instance of the effect with the settings of the new one.

 

However I'm trying to paste an additional instance without replacing the existing instance of the effect.

 

In my case, I'm trying to copy an Instance of Video Copilot's Element effect ("Element A") onto a layer that already has an instance ("Element B"). The result is to replace Element B with Element A, but I'd like to have both Element A AND Element B on the layer.

 

Anyone know how to get around this?

Gutterfish: It's a good thought. I tried the CTRL+ALT+SHIFT approach and it didn't fix anything. I was skeptical because this is happening on multiple computers for me.

 

However, I uninstalled Photoshop CC2019 and installed Photoshop CC2018 instead.  That worked!  All file associations are fixed. I can even open Photoshop files from After Effects CC2019 using the CTRL+E shortcut. Just to be sure, I then uninstalled PS CC2018 and re-installed PS CC2019.  The problem was back again. I seems to be wholly related to Photoshop CC2019. Maybe I should move this discussion over to that forum instead.

It doesn't look like you tried resetting AE Preferences. To do that you have to press and hold

 

    Ctrl+Alt+Shift (Windows)

    Command+Option+Shift (Mac OS)

during AE starting up.

After Effects is generally not used for this type of thing.

Also what you're creating has nothing to do with graphic design.

My point is that maybe, in trying to recreate a realistic flashlight, you are wasting your time?

Unless the assignment is to create realistic lighting effects I would move on.

Dave, yes it does. I was working in AE 2018 when the problem started. Then, I downloaded AE 2017 & AE 2019 to see if one of these versions would correct the problem, however they do not.

Found the fix:

 

In the registry, find the address: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Classes\.psd and change the default value to Photoshop.Image.20 (mine was Photoshop.Image.19)

 

This has worked on every computer.  Hopefully, it will hold and not revert back.
