After effects keeps changing imported AI graphics

Hi, my problem is, every time I open my recent AE project file, the imported AI graphics are getting mixed up.

 

I am using AE CC 2017.2 and AI CC 2017 on a Mac OS 10.12.6.

 

Each graphics I created in Illustrator are saved in their own layer. PDF is included in the document.

 

Imported to AE as a composition with layer size ticked. I have applied several different effects.

 

Now when I open the project, most of the content of the vector graphics have changed.

 

Only the objects I created »shape from vector layer« remain the same.

 

The original Illustrator file I have not changed.

 

Sorry, I am using a german version and I am trying to translate the menu to my best of knowledge.

 

Any hints, what could create the problems?

I know that is sometimes a pain but I've had failures with the dynamic link and usually, I've closed down the apps, went to task manager to ensure there were not duplicate instances running, and even rebooting.  Those actions have always corrected it.

 

Based on what you have said, you've gone further than that by even reinstalling but I suppose still worth mentioning.

 

Has this been happening consistently even after the install?

It only started happening recently. I don't believe I updated any of the two apps. I have tried those methods, and, unfortunately, with no luck. Thank you anyway!

Ok.  My mistake.  I thought your response above was that you had reinstalled.

 

If you have not, that would be the next logical step, to at least reinstall/install again AME.

I hate to sound too obvious but the first error sure does seem to appear that it is not installed at all.  I would install the up to date apps for both but at minimum, reinstall AME, or install the current version.

Hi Scott

 

I checked the print screen and I think the problem is that your precomp named [Text]

where you replaced to the textholder_12 is also used in the slide 1 comp.

You would need to also duplicate the [Text] comp, so you would have a [Text 12] comp

with the textholder_12 inside.

And a [Text 1] comp with the textholder 1 inside.

Just from looking at the print screen this would be my guess.

If this doesn't solve it you can send me the project, no need to send the assets with it. And I can check it for you.

It is a complicated scene. It is normal that it takes so long to render. You have reflections and refractions with AO. I suggest you to render an image sequence in Cinema 4D and check the EVALUATE TRANSPARENCY option in the Ambient Occlusion so your glass doesn't look so dark, so if you have a semi-transparent objects you will have the adequate ambient occlusion for these objects. This is the kind of project I would never render inside After Effects.

 

 

For rendering with C4D, you need to use the Render in Picture Viewer Command (the button in the middle of the 3 render options on the toolbar) but be sure to set up the range of frames you need to export before in your render settings (Command+B).

Thanks, Kevin.  We've tried both of those solutions.  Our IT guy has installed, uninstalled, and reinstalled Windows at least twice, all while making sure we had the most recent updates.  He's been updating drivers and downdating drivers for every element he can find, and we keep getting the same error.

 

Edit: And we can't really restore windows to a previous time because the computer is brand new.  We've only had it in its current state.

Unsharp mask on adjustment layer creating errors with masks underneath

Hi guys,

 

I have a simple comp in AE. A video layer and a matte painting on top, with the top one containing a feathered mask to show only the bottom portion.

 

When I put an adjustment layer on top of those and add an Unsharp Mask, AE creates a massive error that's clearly created by the mask feather as when I turn the mask off it goes away.

 

I've tried precomping and adding the adjustment layer in the new comp but it still happens.

 

Does anyone have a workaround for this?

Change the rendering order by putting the unsharp mask on the footage instead of on an adjustment layer.

 

If that does not work you can use compositing options to make the unsharp mask only effect the area created by the mask.

 

As always, if you would include a screenshot with the modified properties of all layers that are giving you problems revealed (press u twice then PrintScreen and paste or on a Mac Shift + Ctrl/Cmnd + 3 and drag from the desktop) then we could help you fix the problem without guessing what is going on in the comp.

 

I'm not exactly sure what you want the unsharp mask to do but I can tell you that it will try and sharpen the soft pixels in the shot.

They are both installed, I guarantee it. I'll try reinstalling After Effects to make sure it's up to date, as I downloaded Media Encoder just the other day.

AE 6 Colorama Output Cycle bug?

I'm trying to use the AE 6 Colorama Output Cycle effect. I selected the preset Hue Cycle. The problem is the only triangle I can adjust is the red one. When I click drag  the yellow triangle it moves the red triangle. The preset  does not matter. Regardless of the preset or no preset  I can only adjust one triangle. Is this a bug?

You can render it to the Picture Viewer. Hit Shift-R to do this.
